To achieve the Level 4 Certificate In Supporting the Learning of Learners with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) (QCF), the learner must complete the 7 mandatory units totalling 30 credits.
Understand the four broad areas of special educational needs (SEN).
Understand how SEN is identified.
Be able to use understanding of SEN to identify appropriate support strategies for Learners.
Understand the use of evidence-based interventions with learners with special educational needs and disability (SEND)
Be able to evaluate how well a learning provider applies evidence-based practice
Be able to support learners to transfer knowledge and skills gained in an evidence-based intervention to other contexts
Understand effective communication when working with learners with special educational needs and disability (SEND).
Be able to communicate with learners with SEND.
Be able to communicate effectively with parents and carers of learners with SEND.
Be able to evaluate the effectiveness of a learning provider’s communication practices in relation to learners with SEND.
Understand person-centred approaches to working with learners with special educational needs and disability (SEND).
Be able to provide person-centred support to learners with SEND.
Be able to evaluate person-centred provision for learners with SEND.
Understand the role and responsibility of a coach.
Be able to establish a coaching relationship.
Be able to provide coaching.
Be able to maintain and conclude coaching relationships.
Be able to review own performance as a coach.
Understand metacognitive skills in relation to learners with special educational needs and disability (SEND).
Understand strategies that develop metacognitive skills in learners with SEND.
Be able to select and apply strategies that help develop the metacognitive skills of learners with SEND.
Understand action research.
Be able to select an area or focus for an action research project.
Be able to plan action research.
Be able to carry out action research activities.
Be able to collect data for an action research project.
Be able to organise and analyse data from an action research project.
Be able to draw conclusions from action research findings.
Understand how to use findings to improve performance and outcomes.
Be able to evaluate own performance as a researcher.
The approved age range for this qualifications is 18 +
There is no requirement for learners to have achieved prior qualifications.
Prior knowledge of understanding
In order to enter for this qualification, learners must have considerable experience of supporting the learning of learners with SEND and be working in a role where they will be able to put into practice the skills that they are required to evidence for the qualification.
Successful learners may choose to progress to Level 4 education and training qualifications or to higher education. They may also progress to management roles within learning support.
Relationship with other frameworks
This qualification has been approved by Ofqual to be offered in England. This qualification has no direct relationship to other frameworks.
